Eye On Fraser

What's really going on?

Fraser, Michigan - USA.  The heartland.  People in the seat of democracy.  Yes?

You need to know the facts.

Fraser elected new representatives to City Council.  Apparently they demanded change.  But did they demand what is happening?

You need to know what is really going on.

Did you know that:

Before she was elected your new Mayor - Marilyn Lane - announced that the first thing she would do when she got to be Mayor was fire the city attorney?

And that when another already council person starting telling people what Marilyn Lane said, Lane publically denied it and threatened to sue Council Woman Barbara Jennings for liable and slander accusing her of making up lies against her?

Marilyn Lane has been Mayor for a month now.  What has she done?

She has fired the city attorney.

What difference does it make in your life?  More than you know.  But read on, and you will understand.  THIS AFFECTS YOU IN A BIG WAY.

Read on.  This gets really serious.

The Mayor cannot fire somebody by herself.  She cannot legally fire the city attorney.  So it is on the record as "going out to bid".  She even lied on camera to the public and said "I LOVE DON DENAULT! (one of your city attorneys)!"  But she has already told another firm that they have the job!

Look for these names coming up in the near future:

Dolan & Tomlinson

and they subcontractract with Hribar (pronounced Riber) - HER PERSONAL ATTORNEY - who is likely to get a LOT of business from the City

and Beeding - THE ATTORNEY FOR KENDOR, THE FACTORY WHO HAS HAD AN ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD IN COURT FOR 5 YEARS.

Coincidence?  Read on.

Mayor Lane wants to replace them with a firm of 2 attorneys - young and not highly regarded in their field - who subcontract out much of their work

to her personal attorney and the attorney for Kendor.

Why?  The present city attorney did bid and interview just a couple of years ago and won hands down.  They - and one in particular - was praised by the former council for being the best by far. It is a huge firm and specializes in the kind of law that the city needs.  They have at least 20 attorneys with expertise in every area needed. They have senior, junior and in between level attorneys.

What is happening?

Just a small history lesson I promises. But it affects all residents in Fraser directly.

A neighborhood called "Cyril Street" has been complaining about a factory named Kendor for more than 5 years now.  The problem?  A Jurassic park effect when they fire up their 500-ton stamping press in a light industrial district.  Floors pound inside houses, dishes rattle on shelves - boom, boom - every so many seconds hours and hours on end through the day AND through the night.

Should be a simple matter for the city to decide, right?

They didn't lift a finger.  They listened but did nothing.  The city council meetings were packed out month after month after month with residents pleading for help.

What did they get?

They were told off by police officers.  They were lied about.  The community was told that this was "one person with a personal problem".

The neighbors needed help - and they got it - through the city attorney.

He created a very difficult set of rules they had to follow to get tickets written against the factory for violating what are already very leniant codes.

They have to be the complaining party and they have to go to court.  Over and over and over and over again members of the neighborhood have been in court over the last five years.  They have lost hundreds of hours of their time trying to defend their homes against this problem while their sidewalks and driveways and walls and ceilings cracked and crumbled with the booming.

They have had to go before Judges time and time again.  A little stressful, you might think?  They sat through meetings that the (former) mayor appointed and listen to the owner of the factory threaten them.  They were lied about and lied to.  They pressed on.

With the help of your present city attorney, the factory was convicted of violating the ordinances.

The factory appealed the decision.  Again the neighborhood had to go to court. Then they waited 9 MONTHS for a verdict that was promised in 30 days. The factory again lost and the neighborhood won.

But they are still in danger.

The original court has to sentence the factory now that the appeal has been won.  The sentencing has been postponed over and over and over again.

And now your council man Doug Haggerty (Lane's personal puppet) has ordered the city manager to requested that it get postponed again.  Why? Because they intend to have a new city attorney who will drop the case by the time sentencing comes up again.  Fraser citizens will be left high and dry by their own city representatives.

It will destroy an entire neighborhood of lovely homes lived in by lovely people for the benefit of a factory who could do his business many other places and not hurt anybody.

Why?

Doug Haggerty received $500 from the owner of Kendor directly in the election.  He accepted $thousands from the industrial association and its members.  This is a matter of public record.  It boggles the mind what may have 'mysteriously' even not been included in those records.  Did you think he represents you?

Lane accepted many $thousands from the industrial association and its members as well.  She was cunning enough to publicly not accept $ directly from Kendor in the election.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Former council members including Mayor Adamczyk and Ron Wolber also accepted money from Kendor - while the matter was before the council.  Is it a coincidence that the city never helped the citizens on a whole city black?  Hardly.

THIS IS ENTIRELY ILLEGAL!

How does this affect you?

How far do you live from a factory in Fraser?  Do you live behind the High School or next to or behind the old Cross building on 14 mile?  Do you live between Groesbeck Highway and Kelly?  Do you live west or anywhere around Fraser or Kendall drive?

If you do, you are in direct line with a factory.  And the present mayor and her followers do not want the factories to have any rules?
